The small purple-blue berry originates from the forests of Canada. However, as it is very frugal and undemanding in its cultivation, it is now found also in large parts of Europe. Chokeberry, also called aronia, belongs to the rose family, which bears ripe and dark purple fruit from August onwards.

It can be cultivated both in the lowlands and in mountainous regions and provides numerous valuable ingredients that can be of great benefit to health. The berries have a slightly tart and sometimes sour taste. The sunnier the location for chokeberry is chosen, the more sweetness the berries can develop.
